Grand larceny and certain property crimes; penalties.

Abstract

Increases from $200 to $500 the threshold amount of money taken or value of goods or chattel taken at which the crime rises from petit larceny to grand larceny. The bill increases the threshold by the same amount for the classification of certain property crimes. The bill provides that any conviction for a misdemeanor larceny or property crimes offense when the value involved is $200 or more but less than $500 carries a 5-day mandatory minimum sentence. In addition, a second petit larceny within a period of 90 days arising out of a separate occurrence where the aggregated value of the goods is $500 or more becomes grand larceny.
