Bill Subjects

Motor Vehicles

Abstract

Allows a person whose driving privileges were permanently revoked in another jurisdiction as a result of being convicted of a crime to petition a circuit court to reinstate his driving privileges. The bill provides that a petition cannot be filed until five years have passed from the date of the conviction resulting in the permanent revocation and that the person must have been a Virginia resident for at least one year at the time the petition is filed. The bill authorizes a court that reinstates a person's driving privileges to impose conditions on such person if the conviction resulting in the permanent revocation involved the operation of a motor vehicle and either drugs or alcohol.
