Abstract

A BILL TO AMEND ARTICLE 6 OF CHAPTER 3, TITLE 16, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO UNLAWFUL HAZING, SO AS TO DEFINE NECESSARY TERMS, TO RESTRUCTURE THE OFFENSES AND PENALTIES ASSOCIATED WITH UNLAWFUL HAZING, AND TO REQUIRE TIMELY REPORTING OF HAZING INCIDENTS; TO AMEND SECTION 59-101-200, RELATING TO HAZING AND DEFINITIONS REGARDING HAZING, SO AS TO REVISE THE DEFINITION OF "HAZING" TO CONFORM TO THE DEFINITION CONTAINED IN SECTION 16-3-505; AND BY ADDING SECTION 59-101-220 SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT EACH PUBLIC INSTITUTION OF HIGHER LEARNING SHALL DEVELOP A COMPREHENSIVE ANTI-HAZING POLICY, TO SET MINIMUM PARAMETERS OF WHAT MUST BE INCLUDED IN THE POLICY, AND TO PROVIDE FOR THE PUBLICATION OF THE POLICY ON THE INSTITUTION'S WEBSITE.
