Driver's License, violent crime conviction indicator

Abstract

A BILL TO AMEND SECTION 56-1-146, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE CRIME OF VIOLENCE IDENTIFYING CODE REQUIRED ON A DRIVER'S LICENSE FOR A PERSON CONVICTED OF CERTAIN CRIMES, SO AS TO DELETE THE TERM "CRIME OF VIOLENCE" AND REPLACE IT WITH THE TERM "VIOLENT CRIME" AND TO PROVIDE THE EFFECTIVE DATE WHEN A CLERK OF COURT MUST BEGIN NOTIFYING THE DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES WHEN A PERSON IS CONVICTED OF A VIOLENT CRIME; AND TO AMEND SECTION 56-1-148, AS AMENDED, RELATING TO IMPLEMENTATION OF THE "CRIME OF VIOLENCE" IDENTIFICATION CODE, SO AS TO DELETE THE TERM "CRIME OF VIOLENCE" AND REPLACE IT WITH THE TERM "VIOLENT CRIME", AND TO PROVIDE THE EFFECTIVE DATE WHEN THE DEPARTMENT OF MOTOR VEHICLES MUST AFFIX AN IDENTIFYING CODE ON A DRIVER'S LICENSE OF A PERSON CONVICTED OF A VIOLENT CRIME.
