Relating to background checks; and declaring an emergency.

Abstract

] Requires the Department of Human Services to review the statutes of this state to identify all instances of required background checks[,] under certain statutes and similarities and differences in the different background checks, and report on options to consolidate and reduce the number of different background checks for similar purposes or programs. Directs the department to submit findings to the interim committees of the Legislative Assembly related to human services not later than September 15, 2026. Requires the department to study options for providing that a person does not need to undergo another background check conducted by a state agency for certain purposes if the person has already passed a background check conducted by a state agency in the previous 12 months. Directs the department to submit findings to the interim committees of the Legislative Assembly related to human services not later than June 30, 2026. Sunsets on January 2, 2027. Declares an emergency, effective on passage.
