Dhs-Tanf-Minor Parent-Educatn

Abstract

Amends the Illinois Public Aid Code. In provisions concerning TANF eligibility and the residence of a child who is pregnant or a parent, provides that such a person must, within 3 months after beginning to receive TANF, reside with a parent or in another specified setting (instead of providing that no TANF aid shall be paid on behalf of such a person unless the person resides in such a setting). Provides for an exception if the health or safety of the person or the person's child would be jeopardized (instead of if the Department of Human Services determines that the person's or child's physical health or safety would be jeopardized). With respect to TANF recipients' participation in educational and vocational training programs, provides that within 3 months after beginning to receive TANF (instead of at the outset), a parent who is under age 20 and who has not received a high school diploma or GED must be enrolled in school or a GED program or, if secondary school is inappropriate, in work activities or training. Effective immediately.
