Return Of Registration Fees

Abstract

Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. The Secretary of State shall adopt rules to reimburse an applicant's registration fees for the 2023 registration year in which an applicant received a citation for expired registration as a result of a misprinted registration sticker. Requires, notwithstanding any other provision of law, the Secretary of State to authorize the refund from a fund to which fees for original or renewal of registration are deposited. House Committee Amendment No. 1 In a provision regarding registration fees and reimbursement, requires the applicant to provide proof of the citation to the Secretary of State in order to be reimbursed. Provides that the Secretary of State must authorize the refund from a fund from which appropriations are made to the Secretary of State for the purpose of refunding registration fees (rather than a fund to which fees for original or renewal of registration are deposited).
