Athletic Trainers-Various

Abstract

Amends the Illinois Athletic Trainers Practice Act. Makes changes in provisions concerning definitions, including changing the definition of "athletic trainer" and adding a definition of "athletic training". Provides that the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation may take disciplinary action against a licensee for failing to maintain complete and accurate records of all treatments rendered or failing to provide copies of medical records as required by law. Makes changes in provisions concerning titles that may be used only by licensees; exempt activities; and grounds for discipline. House Floor Amendment No. 1 Adds reference to: 225 ILCS 5/13 from Ch. 111, par. 7613 Replaces everything after the enacting clause. Amends the Illinois Athletic Trainers Practice Act. Makes changes in provisions concerning definitions, including the definition of "licensed athletic trainer" and "referral". Changes "athletic trainer aide" to "aide". Defines "athlete", "physician assistant", and "advanced practice registered nurse". Provides that an applicant for endorsement who has practiced for 10 consecutive years in another jurisdiction shall meet the requirements for licensure by endorsement upon filing an application on forms provided by the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, paying the required fee, and showing proof of licensure in another jurisdiction for at least 10 consecutive years without discipline by certified verification of licensure from the jurisdiction in which the applicant practiced. Provides that the Department may refuse to issue or renew, or may revoke, suspend, place on probation, reprimand, or take other disciplinary action the Department may deem proper with regard to any licensee for: failing to provide a monthly report on the patient's progress to the referring physician, physician assistant, advanced practice registered nurse, podiatric physician, or dentist; violating the Health Care Worker Self-Referral Act; or failure of the supervising athletic trainer of an aide to maintain contact to ensure the safety and welfare of an athlete. Makes other changes. Senate Committee Amendment No. 1 Replaces everything after the enacting clause with the provisions of the engrossed bill, and makes the following change: Defines "advanced practice registered nurse" as an advanced practice registered nurse licensed to practice under the Nurse Practice Act (rather than an advanced practice registered nurse licensed to practice under the Nurse Practice Act in accordance with a written collaborative agreement with a physician licensed under the Medical Practice Act of 1987).
