Existing law, as added by Proposition 7 of the November 7, 1978, statewide general election, and further amended by initiative statutes, provides that the penalty for a defendant found guilty of murder in the first degree is death or imprisonment in the state prison for life without the possibility of parole, if one or more enumerated special circumstances are found to be true. This bill would make technical, nonsubstantive changes to those provisions.
