Existing law provides for the payment of a scholarship to a postsecondary educational institution, as provided, to a dependent of specified firefighters killed in the performance of duty. Existing law requires the scholarship to be paid out of funds annually appropriated in the Budget Act. This bill would extend that scholarship benefit to a dependent of a firefighter employed by a tribal fire department who is killed or totally disabled in the performance of duty, as specified.
