Pupil instruction: college and career preparedness information.

Abstract

Existing law requires a pupil to complete specified courses as a condition of receiving a diploma of graduation from high school. The bill would require, commencing with the 2020–21 school year, the governing board of a school district and the governing body of a charter school to ensure that pupils receive information on college and career preparedness at least once in grades 9 to 12, inclusive, as specified. By imposing new duties on school districts, this bill would impose a state-mandated local program. The California Constitution requires the state to reimburse local agencies and school districts for certain costs mandated by the state. Statutory provisions establish procedures for making that reimbursement. This bill would provide that, if the Commission on State Mandates determines that the bill contains costs mandated by the state, reimbursement for those costs shall be made pursuant to the statutory provisions noted above.
