Public contracts: University of California.

Abstract

Existing law requires the Regents of the University of California, except as specified, to let any contract for a project to the lowest responsible bidder. Existing law authorizes the regents to perform projects with university employees if the regents deem that the award of a contract, the acceptance of bids, or the acceptance of further bids is not in the best interest of the university and either the value of the project to be performed does not exceed $50,000, or the project is for the erection, construction, alteration, repair, or improvement of experimental, diagnostic, or specialized research equipment. This bill would authorize projects on the campus at the University of California at Los Angeles to be performed with university employees if the value of the project does not exceed $100,000.
