Claims against the state: payment.

Abstract

Existing law authorizes a procedure for the state to pay claims against the state. Existing law, the Chiropractic Act, enacted by initiative, provides for the licensing and regulation of chiropractors by the State Board of Chiropractic Examiners. This bill would appropriate funds from the State Board of Chiropractic Examiner's Fund in a prescribed amount to settle claims against the state arising from a specified legal action. The bill would also appropriate funds from the General Fund in a prescribed amount to settle claims against the state arising from a separate specified legal action. The bill would provide that any appropriated funds in excess of the amount required to pay those claims revert to the fund from which the proceeds were taken. This bill would declare that it is to take effect immediately as an urgency statute.
