Independent contractor: definition.

Abstract

Existing law defines "independent contractor" for purposes of the Labor Code to mean a person who renders service for a specified recompense for a specified result under the control of his or her principal as to the result of his or her work only and not as to the means by which this result is accomplished. This bill would amend that definition to state that whether a person is an independent contractor is determined by considering various factors, as specified. The bill would amend various other statutory codes to incorporate this definition of independent contractor.
